The L.E. Phillips Career Development Center has an Absorbent Products Test Laboratory, and we are working on the ISO 17025 certification.
APTL is an independent Third-Party Testing Laboratory that provides thorough product evaluations at affordable pricing and prompt turnaround. APTL specializes in the testing and evaluation of various disposable absorbent products:
APTL uses Test Methods that are compliant with National Association for Continence and Domestic State Standards (i.e. Medi-Cal, etc.). The types of thorough analysis, testing and reporting that are conducted are:
Absorbency Performance:
ROA (Rate of Acquisition) - per Medi-Cal Standards (accepted by Dept. of Health Services) - Measure of the speed at which fluid is absorbed or wicked into the product at a specific volume and flow rate.
Rewet Rate - per Medi-Cal Standards (accepted by Dept. of Health Services) - Measure of a product’s ability to prevent fluid from resurfacing to the skin when under pressure. In other words, how dry the product is against the skin.
Total Absorbency - (International ISO Standard 11948-1) - Measure of the overall amount of fluid that the absorbent product can effectively absorb.
Retention Capacity - (International ISO Standard 11948-1 / Paykel Model WL4227P1) - Measure of the product’s capacity to hold fluid without leaking and rewetting the skin.

- Product Weight (accuracy to 0.01 grams)
- Physical Measurements of the entire product and all the key components
- Thickness Measurements of the product and/or absorbent core
- Waist and Leg Opening Measurements of the product, on a state-of-the-art apparatus, to determine if the product meets the waist size ranges specified on the package
